Pride and Prejudice: The Movie

I enjoyed the movie alot.
It didn't deviate from the original plot, and it brought to life the quirkiness, quickness and liveliness of the whole story. The characters were charming and real.

What I love about classics is that they're not just plain old stories. Classics are about human nature, and human nature don't change with time. Which is why they say classics are timeless.

I love Lizzy Bennet.
I think that's because I can can identify myself in her in so many ways.
A little rash, quickness to judge, does not care for many things in the world and her courage to speak what she feels. A classic character in so many different manners.
Kiera Knightley is an awesome Lizzy Bennet. Definitely brought her character to life.
The spark in her eyes is definitely reminiscent of the book. Perfect person to play Lizzy Bennet.

Mr Bingley is an extraordinary character. Very gentlemanly, yet a little shy. The only thing I do not appreciate in this character is his tendency to be easily swayed by others.
But then again, that's part of human nature. When we can't trust ourselves readily, we turn to others who might or might not influence your decisions.

Mr Darcy is an amazing character. I now know why everyone thinks that Mr Darcy sets the standard by which men should all behave, or at least, strive to be.

Yes, he's rich with his Pemberley estate. But most importantly, he's kind, thoughtful, faithful and a complete gentleman. There is a quiet, steady, confident aura about him that makes him stand out from the crowd. There is something unwavering about Mr Darcy that makes one feel safe and protected.
No wonder he is being portrayed as the ideal lover in many contemporary works thereafter.

Their love is of course, enviable and their courtship is much enjoyed by people all over the world.
The ending scene of the movie is really cute and endearing. Enjoyed it fully.

The Pemberley estate is of course the highlight of the movie.
Something I've been dying to see.

Of course it isn't real, but the place they found to depict the estate looks magnificent.
I would loveeee to take a tour of the place.

Heck, I would love to take a Jane Austen Book Tour if I ever visit Bath. I'm sure it would be amazing.

Going to watch the other Austen movies soon.
Kate Winslet is in Sense and Sensibility, and Anne Hathaway is in Becoming Jane!
Amazing, never knew they were in any Austen films.
Will update when I've caught them!

:)

Draw Something

Draw Something has invaded my life.

I wouldn't say it has taken over my life, because that's ridiculous considering the amount of homework I have to do. But it has definitely made my life more interesting.

I love drawing. But I haven't had the time to sit down for an entire day just to sketch for a very veryyyy long time. That's sad. Draw Something has fulfilled my need to doodle a little something everyday.

But the best part is , I have all these awesome artistic friends who has such a talent for doodling.

The avatar and bullet drawings are by the same person my awesome long-time buddy Ting
Super talented and having such friends on Draw Something lets you earn coins faster too hahahahaha!
Just kidding, but I really enjoy watching my friends come up with these really cool drawings.

Check out the bee! Isn't it cuteeeeee??! Simple adorable, the wings details really add the finishing touch to the whole doodle. The clown is mine hahahahaha! I would like to flatter myself a little here that my drawing is super cute too! :D

I shall.. continue my rampage in doodling during my free time.
YOU SHOULD TRY TOO.

6 Reasons to Stop Call Forwarding

The invention of the function FORWARD YOUR CALL is a relatively scary one.
Being a victim of the above scary creation, I shall go on and explain why I abhor this function.

Hi! Is this so-and-so?

1. I am NOT your secretary or phone operator

We live in the same house, we're one big happy family.
But take note, I am NOT your secretary.
We are NOT your secretary.
Do we look like we work in your office?
NO.
So please stop forwarding your missed calls back home.
I do not answer people's calls and take memos for a living.

2. You are inconveniencing the family

Do not make us drop our things to entertain a phone call that got directed home because you were too busy to pick up your phone.
We could be frantically eating because we're running late.
We could be busy cooking dinner for the family.
We could drop dead tired and be trying to take a nap.
We could be having an uninterrupted session of reading or movie marathon.
You get the gist. Inconveniencing the family.

3. Giving the callers a false sense of hope

When you call a person and the ring ring tone turns to a pick up click, you automatically thinks "ahh finally he/she is picking up!" You generally think you can finally say whatever you want to say, get it done and over with.
But when you realize the damn call got transferred back to the house, it's an awkward moment.
Do you leave a memo, or try again.
But what if nobody picks up again and it gets transferred back home.
A difficult situation.

4. Urgent memo? Can't get through to you anyway.

If it's an urgent memo, and the caller left behind instructions to pass on the message.
What happens now.
The reason this urgent memo landed in my hands is because you didn't pick up your calls in the first place. We wouldn't have been able to pass it on to you because well..if the caller can't, what makes you think we can? We're trying to reach the same number, in case you haven't forgot.

Sms?
Tell that to the caller before they even tried to leave a memo.

5. Giving us more room for regrets

When the phone rings, we expect it to be someone we know.
Not someone we don't know and don't care to know.
So, sometimes when the phone with caller ID goes a little berserk, we are unable to screen calls.
So we regret it a lot when we pick up and realize it's a call we do not want to pick up.
Bad luck.

6. Unnecessary explanations

I do not appreciate explaining to the bewildered caller why the call got transferred back home. Especially when it's an explanation I've done so many times, I feel like a walking advertisement for Call Transfers.
Thanks for the ego boost.

It is a bad bad technology move that should not be created in the first place.
Stop embracing it.

Act Of Valor

Awesome movie.

First movie of the year that I watched. Definitely worth the time and money!

Act of Valor is a war film about U.S Navy SEALs who embark on a covert mission to save a kidnapped CIA agent and foil a terrorist plot. The coolest part of this movie is that it's a collaboration with the US Navy, so all the SEALS who appeared in the movie are all currently active duty members. Loads of live fire scenes and they were shot during the SEALs training session.

How cool is that?!

The undercover CIA agent who got kidnapped and tortured. The torture scenes were more than a little gruesome. Grossed out by the inhumane treatment.

I must say, the camouflage is really good.
Wild men, but utterly camouflaged to an inch of their lives. Totally blended in with the trees and grass.
They were doing recon for the hostage rescue mission.

HAHA I find this really cool and artistic at the same time.
Amazing shot against the sunset.

I think at this point, they're rescued the victim and are off.

But during the hostage rescue, they discovered intel that there's a plot to smuggle suicide bombers into the U.S, so they're off once again to foil the plot.

Super exciting and bombastic (pun intended) yet kinda heart wrenching.

Definitely the War Film of the Year.

UCA Cassava Chips

I am a huge fan of potato chips.
I believe they ignite my intellect prowess and make cogs in my brain spin.

But look what's this!!
A healthier version of potato chips, cassava chips!

Cassava is a type of tapioca, and the chips version are less oily.
Taste equally crispy and yummy.
These are cheaper than potato chips too!!!! Bonus points ding ding ding!!

I happen to see cassava chips from Chipster as well!!
It's a smaller pack, but the flavours look reallyyyy interesting. Hehhh so guess what, I'll be trying those as well. As soon as I can get my hands on them. ;)

Strength

Good one.

I'm going to need it badly these week.
And the next.
And the next.
And the next.
Then it's exams.

Honestly, giving an exam and doing an exam are both highly hated tasks.
Worst is marking an exam. Oh applause all 'round.

What was I saying, oh yes I'm going to need superhuman strength to help me get through this week.
Divine intervention, Lady Luck, good karma, anything.
Look after me this week until my exams are over please.
Thank you very much.

Herbivores VS Carnivores

Some people just don't get it.

There is nothing wrong in being a vegetarian, and there is nothing wrong in being a meat lover.
But the problem begins when these herbivores starts to "attack" the carnivores for their preference in food. It's quite an unbecoming sort of behaviour.

I knew someone who was like that, and it irked me a lot that this person should feel this faux self-righteousness to condemn meat-eaters. On one occasion, we were shown a video by this person, who shall be known as H, about animal farms cruelty. Animals were reared to be killed and the images were really disgusting. H then showed us another video of vegetables being cared for and how classical music can affect their growth, thereby concluding that animals have feelings too.

To which I felt like rebutting, that vegetables have feelings too. So what's up with the eat vegetables not meat theory. Yes the images of the animal cruelty were disgusting, the plants were well-cared for up til the point of their "death", but so what? I still felt like eating meat. Not that I am a great meat lover, but I can tell you if my diet lacks any more meat, I will promptly faint and be diagnosed with a series of deficiency illness. One can argue there are always supplements, but why should I consume supplements when there are more delicious and natural forms of the vitamins/minerals etc waiting for me in the form of meat. It doesn't make sense.

We all have our own beliefs and principles, and I believe that we are all entitled to our own choice of diet and tastes in cuisine. As long as one does not publicly comment or condemn another's choice of food, you can jolly well eat whatever you want and I really can't be bothered to care. I have not spoken to H for ages, and I sincerely hope that H has become a better person, and stop condemning other people's diet. Continue in your rude ways, and one day you will meet your match, someone will condemn you for being a vegetarian. Maybe at that point, you will finally understand how much we have suffered when we used to dine together.

I love ZA

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy ZA's products?
They're affordable, easy to purchase as they're available in all Watsons outlets, and best of all they have products that are specially catered for Asian skin types.

One of my more recent discovery is the ALL NEW HYDRATION RANGE of skincare products.

There's alot, but I'm particularly interested in the Moisturizer, Amino Mineral Refreshing Gel and the Essence Pore Care.

Super complicated diagram to demonstrate the effects of the products, but basically just remember that this hydration series helps to replenish water to your skin and leaves you with supple hydrated skin. Most importantly, it doesn't leave your skin feeling icky, sticky or even oily!

Just the sound of it is attracting me.

Since Watsons is having a sale, and the products are on discount 15%, I decided to get one product to try it out first.

TOTAL HYDRATION PORE CARE ESSENCE
Essense 20g

Rather interested in this Pore Care Essence. I have huge pores which I hate, and interestingly, this clear gel product seemed to have minimized the pores a little after only 2 uses. Definitely good progress. I also like that the gel isn't oily or sticky, and it has a reallyyyyy nice scent. Kinda sweet, a little floral I guess..

It perks me up and keeps me in a good mood, best thing is the scent remained on my fingertips long after, and I smell the lingering sweet fragrance about me like it's a perfume.

TOTAL HYDRATION AMINO MINERAL REFRESHING GEL
Moisturizing gel 50g

I find this product really interesting as well, I think it's a moisturizer.
I am in need of a moisturizer, but up til now I haven't found one that doesn't excrete excess sebum after usage. Pretty annoying I know. But oily skin needs to be moisturized too, so when I saw this, I was really tempted to get it. But it says here gel, so I couldn't figure out what exactly is it. It hydrates, and moisturizes and doesn't leave your skin shiny or oily as well.
But it is a moisturizer?
Hmm, probably I should ask the Watsons staff the next time I pass by.

There is another product the Milk Moisturizer, which is well..definitely a moisturizer. But I'm afraid that it'll be too rich for my skin. So..I'm still deliberating which to get. Oh and even without the 15% discount, it's still a pretty affordable product, the above mentioned products they don't cost beyond $15 if I didn't remember wrongly.

Another of my favourite wonder product is this!!!!

TRUE WHITE PLUS INSTANT BRIGTNER
SPF20 PA++

The milti-purpose product, brightens your complexion, protects you from the sun, and acts as a makeup base as well. I know right, it's beyond awesome. It's also the winner of the Cosmo Beauty Grand Prix 2012, though I remember the editions last year featured this as a winning must-have product as well. My secret to luminous skin (HAHA!) revealed. I like that the cream is a light pinkish tone and it complements Asian skin tones very well. Didn't appear cakey or thick or unnatural.

HOW TO USE:

The last miracle product that I'm going to rave about is...
TRUE WHITE PLUS TWO-WAY FOUNDATION
4 shades SPF20 PA++
(Case and refill are sold separately)

It's a two-way powder, so you can apply it wet or dry.
The wetter your sponge, the thinner your coverage. So if you need long-lasting thick coverage, apply it dry, but as with all makeup and skincare products, take care not to pile on the stuff. Apply in a downward stroke so as not to clog up your pores.

HOW TO USE:

Yes that's it with my ZA ravings. Inspiration to blog tends to strike me when I'm at my busiest, so yes.. I need to get back to my killer assignments.

Adios!

Olympus E-PM1

Went to the IT Fair over the weekend, boy was it crowded.

Armed with an in-and-out mission to get 2 sets of printer ink and my long awaited Olympus camera!

I wanted to get the Olympus Pen 3.
Been eyeing it since last year, and my camera is really pretty much gone case.
But I just got a new laptop last year, and I used up my annual claims for that.

Waited an entire year for this year's claims to come through so I can get my dream camera!
It was retailing at 800$ at Comex fair last year!

But this year...

Instead of price dropping, it INCREASED!!!!

To about 1200$ plus plus!!!!

Exceeded my budget.
-.-

But the nice Olympus guy who incidentally, resembled Hong Kong actor 杜汶泽, introduced me another new product on offer.

杜汶泽

The sales guys looked like him lol. A bit older, stockier, and not so polished.

The Olympus Pen Mini - E-PM1

Comes in 6 gorgeous colours!

After much deliberation, I've decided to get.....

The brown colour!!!

Looks like molten chocolate, niceeee..

Comes with loads of free gifts too

1. Dry box
2. 8GB SD card
3. Screen Protector
4. Camera casing

The screen protector was obtained thorough a little whining -.-
Damn disgusting, but hey, for a free screen protector, I'm willing to do that.

We saw Felicia Chin at the Olympus booth too, her makeup damn thick.
From far I can already see that if I were to use a toothpick to scrape off her makeup, it'll land in a small pile on a paper plate. But okay, she still looks pretty.

Oh and so far my new camera's pretty awesome.
Loving it. The image is sharp, colours are vivid, and the manual focus is the best feature.
The interface is pretty easy to use, and it's pretty much packed full of a DSLR features despite the tiny body. Without the lens, the body is rather compact and lightweight.

Maybe it's time to give the gadget a new name too, hehh hehh.. any ideas?
;)

Bucket List #12
Photos taken from Perfect Bucket List

Been there, done that.

Must try, it's a step out of your comfort zone and into independence. Albeit lonely and sometimes you just gotta do the tough things yourself, but when is growing up ever easy?

Welcome to the International Students Dorm.

We can sit here and daze, which I often do, sometimes I sit on the steps alone outside for an hour or so doing nothing, it feels good. Except when I go examine my face and realize all the dirt in the air has permanently moved into my pores.

This is to let you know that you room has no more money which effectively means you get NO ELECTRICITY AND WATER. Very fun right hahhah!

Welcome to my room.

Everything in ziplock and cans because there is a bad infestation of ants in my room.
Eucks.

I have become a pro ant killer in my time over there.

Notes and textbooks cramming up the shelves.

Yes yes my table is a right old mess, I'm a slob.

Please don't question my need for so many water bottles LOL.

I am a lazybum who HATES refilling water bottles. It's so irritating. So I buy many drinks to try, then I keep the bottles so I can refill them all at one shot and drink it over a few days. Brilliant plan I know lol.
My trusty Fujitsu being my most trusted and important non-living companion over there is now..RIP.
You were a good friend Fujitsu, take heart that I have actually acquired another Fujitsu to replace you.

Hmm I realize I didn't have pictures of my bed, I think that's because it's in a worse state than my study table so it's unfit for human eyes.

But yes my conclusion is that please experience living in a dorm, it is an exceptional and memorable experience that anyone should not miss out on.
