Social Experiment #01

"Nobody wants to see girls in jeans.
There's nothing to see anyway."

A good friend told me this.

I have a penchant for jeans. Long jeans.
Needless to say, I didn't believe him.
Jeans are so comfy and nice, why wouldn't it turn heads?!
So I've decided to embark on my own little mini social experiment.

I'm going to log a series of my outfits everyday and note down the type of reaction it garnered from random guys on the streets and in school.

DAY 1

Only had an hour of lessons and a whole day to camp in school for projects.
No mood to dress up so I just wore the standard Singaporean wear - T-shirt, shorts and slippers.

Despite the fact that I wore no make-up, this outfit actually garnered a fair bit of attention.

WHY?!

I'm looking so utterly cui and style-less.
Maybe it's the shorts. But it's kinda like camping shorts with all the functional pockets, so I can't really see the whole appeal of it.

DAY 2

A cropped top and and high waist skirt.
This garnered quite a bit of attention.
Maybe it's because of the skirt, granted it's not veryyyy short either. I just liked that it's very soft cotton and had two functional pockets!

Okay personally I like this combination alot.
First time trying out this combination and surprisingly it worked.

DAY 3

I am not invisible in this, but I am nearly invisible in this.
Had a presentation on that day and was in no mood for a dress.

DAY 4

This one, garnered almost as much attention as DAY 2's outfit.
Must be the short dress.

DAY 5

Shorts are almost on par with skirts, attention-wise.
But it seems skirts and dresses win out more. Just by a bit.

DAY 6

This is micro-teaching outfit. Standard work clothes.
Very prim and proper and demure.

In fact, this garnered..practically zero attention.
What does this shows, not all skirts and dresses are equally attractive.
Especially not work clothes. Or maybe I just needed to upgrade my work clothes wardrobe. I have also just realized my belt has reached it's maximum life span, elastic almost gone. Geez.

DAY 7

I doubt anyone would recognize the top from the above photos.
Fuctions both way hehh I love that dress.
This one, a teeny bit of attention.
Maybe cuz the pants had a good cut. I love my work pants, comfy!

DAY 8

A different combo, long sleeved top and the same pair of denim jean shorts.
This combo ...not too bad actually.

So what's the verdict?
My irritating friend was right.
If you feel more than a little attention-starved, wear something eeny weeny.
Someone will look.
Definitely.
Just that no quality guaranteed only.

So with that concludes my mini experiment.
I'm definitely back to wearing my comfy clothes.
Long lectures means long jeans and a thick jacket so I can snuggle in for a long nap.
Okay I'm kidding about the nap.

Kith Cafe: Park Mall

Kith Cafe is a really quaint cafe nestled in the middle of bustling Orchard Road. It's situated at the end of Park Mall, and they have both indoor and al fresco dining. As you can see from the above banner, Kith Cafe's main colours are yellows and browns. A variety of brown and yellow wood styled in a very log house rustic feel. I like the whole concept, plus the colours were very soothing.

Just a rough outline of their menu, lots of food.

Iced Honey Latte

This is A's Iced Honey Latte.
Anything with honey is already a winner.
Plus the colour looks like Teh Tarik, haha!

Mushroom Aglio Olio

This is by far the best aglio olio I've tasted. The garlic was fresh and the pasta had just a hint of spice.
Portobello mushrooms are a hot favourite of mine, so juicy and flavourful, and it seems A loves them too! It's a pity I can't eat pasta, (damn the super fail digestive system) else I would have ordered this the next time round!

Big Breakfast

Cute name and despite having the same name as the ubiquitous Mac breakfast, this is 10x better.
Of cuz it's more expensive but at least I love everything on this plate as opposed to Mac's.

The scrambled eggs are oh so fluffy, and the bacon!! Bacon is always good, no?
The portobello mushrooms are well-flavoured and had bite. The bratwurst sausage is juicy and meaty.
The brioche toast is fresh and soft, though I would have preferred it to be slightly more toasted. I prefer my toasts crispy! But the jam was unrivalled. I think it was homemade raspberry jam, well it tasted like raspberry. The jam really adds some bonus points to the brioche.

It isn't called Big Breakfast without reason.
The toasts were huge, I finished off everything on my plate, except the brioche.

It was such a satisfying lunch, good food and lots of catching up.

Shunji Matsuo Biolage Day

I love going to hair salons.
The feeling of pampering your stressed out strands is actually quite good.

By some stroke of luck, I chanced upon this opportunity to win a free hair treatment from Shunji Matsuo Hair Salon @ 313 and I jumped at the chance.

And I won! Hurray!

This is the e-voucher that I won!

Valid for a FREE Biolage express hair treatment. Biolage is their newly launched product so this is one good opportunity for people to try it out. Word of mouth works wonders.

After accessing my hair condition, my stylist proceeded to wash my hair and do the treatment. I've done rebonding before so I'll need fortethérapie some extra care for chemically weakened hair. My hair is also prone to frizziness, especially since lately I haven't been putting on my hair serum, so I'll need the smooththérapie.

There are 2 steps to the hair treatment.

First, my stylist did the fortethérapie Cera-Repair In-Salon Treatment for me.

"fortethérapie strengthens weakened hair, combining forces of science and nature to reconstruct while boosting vitality, and smoothing hair. Damaged hair is strengthened while building resistance against future breakage."

Benefits:
  • For weak, overworked, brittle hair
  • Intensive repair and strengthening to reduce breakage
  • Highest ceramide levels for extra strengthening
  • Paraben-free and synthetic dye-free
  • Eco-conscious packaging

Next, he applied the smooththérapie Ultra Control Deep Smoothing Masque.

"smooththérapie smoothes frizzy, unruly, medium to coarse hair with the silky serum of Camellia flower seed  to continuously control frizz in hot, humid seasons while replenishing hair’s moisture during dry cool seasons. Hair stays naturally smooth,year-round, even in up to 97% humidity*."
All images and excerpts taken HERE

Approximately an hour later, treatment done!
Final detail, a leave in hair serum that left my hair shiny and smooth.

Happy me with my pretty hair!

Galleria Italiana Spring/Summer 2013

Today I'll be bringing you lots and lots of photos for the upcoming collection in Galleria Italiana!
We'll be looking at posh Italian brands such as GABS, Braccialini, Gheradini, Tintamar and Araldi.
I know, I can't pronounce half of these brand names but don't feel deterred by that!
I promise the bags shown below will send you into this frenzied state of euphoria.
THEY ARE CUTE. SO PRETTY AND CUTE.
Let's go!

ABOUT GALLERIA ITALIANA

REFRESHMENTS

 GABS

GABS is a Florentine leather goods company that produces high quality bags and accessories which are made in Italy. The brand is all about colour, transformation and versatility, allowing the bags to easily modify shape, thereby creating up to give different shapes from one bag. Each GABS bag is meant as a passe-partout, an all-purpose bag to eliminate monotony and conformity. The brand was formed in 1999 by Franco Gabbrielli, who was able to dream and visualize beyond the ordinary bag, so he invented a series of transforming objet d'art that can both change dimensions and be functional as bags. The brand strives to distinguish itself by the use of colours and materials.

GABS G3 aka Transformer Bag

This is the GABS G3 Bag aka Transformer Bag.

Yes sireee, you are looking at just ONE bag.

Perks of this bag:
  • Change the shape of the bag 3 different ways, as shown in the collage
  • Comes with a pliable leather bag bottom to give your bag more shape
  • Comes with a free recycling bag, if you decide to head to NTUC on a whim
  • The interior is made of jeans cloth material, so it's very durable!
  • Mini notepad keychain. 2-in-1 Stationery and Bag Accessory
  • Customizable bag designs for you to pin on your bag, switch em' up!
  • Comes with a long strap for you to change it from a tote to a sling bag!

Check out my bikini babe!! What a sexy pin-up girl.
I have a weak spot for these 60's pin-up girls designs. So gorgeous!
Super love this design, it's so fun and cheeky and the best part is the yellow colour cheers you up immediately. I mean, look at this babe smiling at you, how can anyone not smile?!

Another of my favourite design, this car is just too adorable!!
Long eyelashes and a pouty lip. Muacks!

There are smaller bags from GABS too, there's a really cute clutch below.

Because we're cute this way.
My hair can even do a direct extension of the girl's hair LOL.
I think this hair colour suits me too, what do you think.
Oh I forgot you can't even see my face, let alone see how my skin tone matches up with the hair colour hahahaa!

KA-CHA! SNAPPED!

Other designs available, if you don't like the eye-catching graphics designs above.
You can have the hot pink foamy material one, or the kueh tupat, or different shades of midori, or the roll-up yellow bag! So much variety, confirm you'll be spoilt for choices!

 TUA BY BRACCIALINI

Braccialini was founded as a leather goods company in 1954 by Carla Braccialini and her husband, Roberto Braccialini. Carla is the creative spirit and extraordinary  visionary behind the Braccialini brand. She wanted her purses to have authentic flair, pure fancy and bright colours so that they were not ordinary purses or bags, but a sort of magical means to break free and travel into a world of dreams, where surprise was the passport. Her bags had to be a storyteller that stirred things up with unexpected tales. Carla intended to invent an eternal and universal style that blended passion and charisma, personality and liberty; remaining elegant, feminine and tasteful.

This just screams cuteeeeee!!!

Washing machine, riverside, dogs, baa baa white sheep!!
CANNOT RESIST. MUST TAKE PICTURES WITH THEM ALL.
Actually still have alot of other pretty bags but I cannot possibly take pictures with all of them, because posing also very tiring one you know. So I picked the cutest and more eye-catching ones.

The details are all hand-sewn, leather strips all hand-cut. Crazy workmanship and the attention to detail makes you dizzy just looking at it. These two bags are also quite light! I like the shape too, very user-friendly.

The house and safari car are super duper limited edition bags. Handcrafted and mad intricate.

I like this design too! In fact, if I had to choose a bag to USE, I would pick this.
The bag wasn't crazily heavy like the super cute ones featured above, and I like the understated design. Heavy bags are a no-no in my daily bags dictionary. The understated design attracts attention but it wasn't loud and showy. The designs were all stitched on, so when you touch it, you can feel a slight 3D effect.

GHERARDINI

The Gherardini brand boasts an impressive history; the very expression of renowned Florentine craftsmanship and artisan skill. Gherardini family members ran the company until 1990, giving it a unique fingerprint in style and workmanship. They implemented the most revered traditions creating unique products. Tradition, craftsmanship and the Made in Italy label are still the distinguishing features of Gherardini.

Nothing can make me smile so radiantly than a SUPER DUPER LIGHT BAG
This is some crazy piece of technology, the bag material is so damn light that it weighs practically next to nothing. This bag is currently flying off the shelves in Japan apparently, the Japanese love this bag.

This is the brand with a longer brand history than Gucci.
Made me go "wow" when I heard that.
IMHO, the designs are nicer than Gucci. More clean simple lines and timeless designs.

TINTAMAR
Tintamar is established in 2003 by its current CEO, Mrs Edith Petit. The name Tintamar was derived from a virgin island in the Caribbean, reflecting the young vibe and dynamism if the brand.
Tintamar embraces the creative philosophy of "intelligent daily bags". With this as guide, Tintamar designers aim to create original concepts, always looking after new material combinations, fresh colour and trendy styles, until they obtain the perfect balance between functionality and design.

This brand didn't particularly catch my eye since there's nothing very special.
Their lambskin pouches are really soft and comfy though. The latest studded collection adds a bit of punky attitude but other than that.. nothing much.

ARALDI 1930
Araldi roots were founded by the Pierpaolo family at the end of the 19th century producing high quality saddlery in Recanatia a small village near Ancona, Italy. The company continued to grow through the years, with each generation of the Pierpaoli family striving to uphold their tradition of high quality hand-made craftsmanship paired with a great attention to detail.
Specializing in men's belts and small leather goods, Araldi also offers a range of shoes, bags and travel goods for the modern man who appreciates a touch of history. The brand philosophy is to integrate Italian artisan craftsmanship with the newest technology. The designs are exclusive and distinctive and reflect the careful balance between tradition and modernity. All products are made in Italy by master artisans in their historical production site in Vimercate.

Choose your own belt design AND buckle.
Yes you can now customize your own BELT.
I think this is great news for all the super duper fashion metrosexual guys out there. If you want understated, you get understated chic. If you want to go all loud and bling, you can do that too.
Your style, your game. Fun right?!

Awkward Situation #1: The Ultrasound Scan

Me: why do people like t show others their baby ultrasound scans? I don't even know how to react to seeing a black dot, or as technology has improved - a brown blob of potato-lookalike.
Mum: These people ding dong ah!? Isn't an ultrasound scan a private thing? Or at least it was in my time.

HAHA. Precisely how I feel when people insist on stuffing their ultrasound scans in my face.
It gets worse when they look at me expectantly, waiting for me to exclaim or yell in excitement.

Were you expecting a:

OMG THAT'S SO CUTE!!! CONGRATULATIONS!

or

Wow this is so cool how many weeks now?

or

I'm so happy for you!!!
or

ALL OF THE ABOVE?!

You wanna explain to me how a black dot or a brown blob is cute?

Cute is subjective.

Some people think clowns are cute; whereas some find it frightful.

You might think a black dot is cute, but I beg to differ.
You only find it cute cuz it's YOUR baby. You can feel it in your womb. That's love.
But for the rest of us mere mortals?
 Nada. Zilch.

For that same reason, I have no idea how people can exclaim over the cuteness of a black dot when being cornered with a potential parent waving the ultrasound scan. You really think it's cute?!?! Congrats on your well-honed pre-developed motherly instincts. Maybe I'm heartless but, a black dot is not cute. Or maybe you were forced by circumstances to say that.

As the saying goes, if you can't say anything nice then shut the hell up.
So I did.
It was the only polite thing I can do without seeming heartless.

Then I get bombarded with:

WHY IS YOUR EXPRESSION SO WEIRD??

or

Well?? What do you have to say?

or

NOT CUTE MEH?
Whdidn't you exclaim or say something?!?

or

ALL OF THE ABOVE.

How do I tell you that I am NOT INTERESTED!?
It's rude right, so I settled for a smile and the universally politically correct answer:

"Oh, I just don't really know how to look at an ultrasound scan."

At this point some kind-hearted well-meaning person will want to start explaining the finer details of looking at an ultrasound scan to you. *face palm*
To which, I will find some reason to be momentarily engaged so I don't have to partake in any of this.

Why oh why do these people think the whole world feels the same as them about their unborn baby??
Don't they realize it's such an awkward social situation for the rest of the people?
Or at least the heartless non-maternal type??

Image taken HERE

Once, when showed a 4D ultrasound scan, I did not realize it's an ultrasound scan.

I thought it was a POLAROID SHOT.

That's how much of an idiot I am.
But that's not the worst.

I thought the brown blob in the picture was a potato.

Image taken HERE

I was still wondering why this person decided to show me a polaroid shot of a potato.
So bewildered.

Good thing I kept my thoughts to myself cuz a minute later said person announced it's his unborn baby.

LUCKY I KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT.

Then I endured through the necessary niceties and took the first opportunity I had to be "momentarily engaged". This allows for other more interested parties to partake in the "festivities" of the situation.

Sighs.
Sometimes I just wish there were less socially awkward situations.

Life.
Why you so difficult?!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

There are so many things I love about this movie.
Not gonna waste letters on telling you about the plot cuz it's not something mere words can describe.

You have to experience it to be able to understand it.
This whole movie is an experience.

It might be written from a 16 year old's point of view but it is strangely similar to what a person will go through at every stage of his/her life. It's deep, it's emotional and it connects. This is what a good movie is all about, connection with the audience.

Most awesome song I've ever heard, this movie is full of great music.

One of my favourite scenes from the movie.
Carefree.
At least, for the moment.

I LOVE SAM'S ROOM.

LOVE.
I DON'T EVEN CARE THAT IT'S PINK.
IF IT LOOKS THAT DREAMY AND COSY, IT CAN JOLLY WELL BE SWEET PINK.

AND THAT WINDOW SEAT!!!
Sitting there and watching the rain outside, reading a book, or daydreaming away.
Sighhhs..how idealistic.

The best quote in the movie.

Yes we are.

Shall end this with a quote I found while searching for movie stills.
I think this quote sums up the essence of the movie as well.
Wallflower or not, just feel good in your own skin and everything will fall into place perfectly.
“Of course, men like long hair. There’s no two ways about it. The majority of the boys around me were like, “Why did you do that? That’s such an error.” And I was like, “Well, honestly, I don’t really care what you think!” I’ve never felt so confident as I did with short hair—I felt really good in my own skin.” — Emma Watson

Verdict: 5/5

Great music, great plot, great acting.
This is one movie that I will watch again and again.
Oh and read the book too, please go on sale.

Itacho Sushi: Quality Taste

Itacho is my new favourite sushi place, because of it's quality sushi at affordable prices.
I've wrote an entry about it when I visited the Ion Orchard branch, and now I'm at the Plaza Singapura branch. Now you must be thinking, it's the same company, how can there be any difference?!

I am here to tell you, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.
Just like how the Sakae Sushi at Wheelock tastes better than the branch at Northpoint, Itacho Sushi cannot escape the same fate.

Now let's start the comparisons, and try some new dishes which I missed out last time!

SMOKED SALMON WITH BLACK PEPPER

Salmon slices were a little on the thin side at the Plaza Sing branch.
Smoked flavour not as strong too.
A teeny bit of a letdown, if I have to compare.

Avocado and soft shell crab ROLLs

Whoo hooo love avocado!
This is just as good as the one at Ion Orchard branch.
Thumbs up!

LObSTER AND mAngo SaLad roll

Mango is a little small today hmm..

But taste wise, かんぺきです!

ROASTED SCALLOP WITH FLYING FISH

I just wanna ask, why your scallop smaller todaay?!
If your flying fish roe got any tinier, it's going to disappear into the stratosphere.
I can barely taste them.

Check out the picture of the same dish I had at the Ion Orchard branch a few months back.

QUALITY CONTROL PLEASE!
The difference is a little too big ah Itacho!

So yes, the scallops were disappointing that day. Not gonna order them again.

SOFT SHELL CRAB HAND ROLL

Sakae Sushi your softshell crab handroll fail already.
This is 100x better. No offense.
No fan fare and other distracting ingredients stuffed in to divert the customer's attention away from less than perfect rolls.

The limelight is all on the softshell crab, which didn't disappoint.
Deep-fried to a crisp outer texture but the insides are still very much juicy and flavourful.
The seaweed is very crisp and it tastes quite good.
The rice, needless to say, is very very yummy. Don't overlook the rice, because this is afterall sushi! Every grain is glistening white and it tastes mildly sweet.

ROASTED EGG WITH SPICY SALMON

This is my new favourite.

THIS IS WHAT I CALL,
 A REAL JAPANESE ROASTED EGG.

Thick, flavourful and juicy. This just screams I AM EGG EAT ME!
The spicy salmon adds a zingggg to the overall flavour and it's just so addictive.
Now I know why the Japanese love this dish and can gobble plates of it with their beer.
It is really that delicious.

SPICSALmOn WITH bEaNcurd

Pretty decent, but nothing extraordinary. Their spicy salmon is really good, as proven above in other dishes so there's guaranteed satisfaction!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rating: 4/5

The branch at Plaza Singapura is really not as fantastic as the branch of Ion Orchard.

Check out my other post HERE

The pictures were taken with my iPhone in the previous post whereas in this entry I brought along my camera to snap the shots. Sadly the quality of the sushi couldn't compare to Ion!

I still love Itacho though, but I won't be visiting the Plaza Sing branch anymore!
