The Platonic Friendship: Do They Really Exist?

Being a naturally boliao person, I felt very inspired to do up this visual chart after I read this article on Thought Catalog. Mainly because R thinks this article that I found very interesting kinda hard to digest as she couldn't understand what the attraction spectrum meant. So there you go, a visual chart to show you how the different levels of attraction show up on the attraction spectrum.

I really thought this article was pretty interesting because it is quite true, isn't it?
Attraction shouldn't be a case of a simple black and white, yes or no.
As with all human relations, there is always the grey area.

So if there is always this grey area, then what happens between a pair of really close male and female friend?
Does the platonic friendship really exist?

Well, I for one think they they can exist because attraction aside, there is one thing that humans do possess; and that is self control. The self-control to dictate your actions and the logic to analyze what will happen if you proceed with said action.

While platonic friendships can exist, I also think one should never forget about the attraction spectrum because I feel that both can exist at the same time in one relationship BECAUSE of the above self-control that both parties take to prevent things from escalating.

There are also many different types of attraction, as seen on the attraction spectrum. Of course at the extreme ends of the attraction spectrum lies the absolute zero attraction and the super passionate one that results in copulation. But everything in between is just grey area. Some attraction can be appeased by the simple act of flirting or in some cases harmless physical touches etc.

Boys treated friendship the way they treated the sun. It's existence undisputed, it's radiance best enjoyed, not beheld directly.

The above is a quote that really resonated with me when I read A Thousand Splendid Suns.
It kinda explained why most people think a platonic friendship between a man and a woman does not exist, mainly because these two genders expressed their friendship in different ways and I guess it's easy to just misunderstand the dynamics.

I asked around a few of my more introspective friends and this is what I got:

"I would believe that there is a certain level of acceptance that man and women cannot be close platonic friends, but for me I think that its only valid for a certain period of time. In the relationship, they might be interested in each other at one time. It might be for a short time, it might not coincide. So the feelings might not result in anything, but I believe that the feelings were there at that time. "

So I guess ultimately it doesn't really matter if people are interested in you.
It only matters that you know what you want.

Cook-For-Myself Days

I usually dedicate Saturday to myself, it's like a me day.
I do my face mask, I read, I cook, I laze around doing nothing just happy to be relaxing.

Which brings us to Cook-For-Myself Days.
I started to venture out of my cooking safe zones and try cooking other food.
Of course, Saturdays usually mean empty fridge, no fresh food so I make do with whatever frozen ingredients that's available. Because it's generally quite unpredictable, part of the fun is trying to think how you can incorporate that a certain ingredient into your meal. Sometimes I get a surprise ingredient and it ends up feeling like a bonus meal!

Cha soba with purple cabbage and Korean wontons drenched in the Japanese noodle sauce.
Yeah the purple cabbage was a surprise ingredient haha.

Bean mee soup with egg, crabstick, mushroom ball and salmon balls.
The soupbase can be easily replicated with a vegetable or chicken stock cube. I prefer the chicken stock cube though, more flavourful. For a little fibre intake I tossed in some of the frozen vegetables as well.

Cha soba with pan-fried gyoza, drenched in Japanese noodle sauce.

Brunch time!

Omelette topped with furikake, wedges and two slices of nutty garlic bread.
I call it nutty bread because it came coated with a variety of nuts and seeds. I seldom eat bread but this is definitely one that I'll eat.

More brunch time with Bacon Egg Cups.
Pan fried bacon til it's half cooked, wrap them in baking muffin trays, crack an egg into the middle and send into oven for roughly 15-20 minutes. These are amazingly delicious though it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's amazingly bad for your arteries. 100 calories per cup, sooo.. hit the road running after you've devoured these babies.

Bean mee with Korean wonton and egg, drenched in sesame oil, soy sauce, pepper, and mushroom chilli.
Mhmm yummy in my tummy..

Cook-for-myself day begins with an omelette topped with furikake and stir-fried button mushrooms!

Kimchi soup with bean mee, and banchan (seaweed and cucumber)
Yeah I like bean mee, also because we have so many packets stocked up at home.

Soba, charcoal grilled chicken and banchan (for some fibre intake)

Teraoka Gyoza

Teraoka Gyoza is the proud 7 time winner from the Japanese Gyoza Stadium and now they have an outlet at Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand.

The first day when I walked past, I was already drawn  to this shop and the delicious aroma of pan-fried gyoza. I told myself I HAVE to try this before I fly home.

My chance came when Paragon reopened on the day I was leaving.
So so so so happy to be able to eat that finally!

Sudachi Gyoza 179 Baht
Juicy chicken thigh gyoza, served with special black pepper and fragrant "Sudachi" lime dressing from Tokushima.

Pan-fried to golden perfection, the gyoza skin is so thin it simply tears apart when you bite into it.
The chicken thigh meat is so juicy and tender, and when dipped into the special lime-pepper sauce, you can literally hear fireworks going off in your mouth. Must-try!

Ebi Gyoza 185Baht
Fresh tiger prawn mixed with crunchy water chestnut and "Shiso" leaves.

I'm unsure how the chefs manage to make the prawn mixture so refreshingly crunchy but it's just beyond delicious. Though I have to say, chicken thigh is still a better marriage for gyoza.
They have a cheese-mentai flavour as well and I wanted to order that because who can resist mentai?!
But Mum doesn't like cheese so we ordered the above instead.

Verdict: 5/5

Undoubtedly one of the best gyozas I've ever tasted.
You HAVE TO try it when you visit Bangkok.

Insta-Dec

December; when snow falls and unicorns gallivant, fairy lights twinkle and people say goodbye.

Took my long-awaited trip, my great escape to Bangkok.

Saw this mega cute gelato shop in Siam Paragon that sells the cutest and most gorgeous gelato on sticks.
Didn't try it cuz I was on a mission to eat something else.

Found some interesting flavours of Pretz so bought a couple boxes home for people.
They're actually quite nice though.

Also bought body scrub from Beauty Buffet in Bnagkok because I am obsessed with body scrubs. Sometimes I think I may be on a mission to find the most affordable and awesome body scrub.
Now let's hope these two live up to expectations.

Met up with a long lost friend whom I haven't seen for 5 years and I got a belated birthday celebration!
My first proper one, complete with a cake, candle and a birthday song!

Ooooh and I even got a birthday present!
2 packs of sushi stickers for the sushi girl and sticker monster in me.
Totally wasn't expecting that at all, but stickers do make me very happy indeed.
Gonna plaster them all over my belongings and be very happy everytime I look at them.

It seems to me that everyone seems to be very eager to make my birthday a memorable and enjoyable one, and I'm very thankful for that.
Met up with another friend for a lovely dinner and it was a night full of laughter and great fun.

My postcards from Perth arrived and I think my teeny magnetic board as gotten wayyyy too full.
Maybe I should consider blu-tacking them on the wall instead. Subsequently my other beaches postcards from Australia arrived as well and I think I simply have to find a new way to display all of them!

December has been wayyyy awesome (because of holidays) and it's been a great month.
Other than some darker moments, it's been greatttttt.
Here's to a great 2014, because with every year that passes, things can only get better and better.
