When I first heard that I can have my first taste of wagyu beef in Ang Mo Kio, I was quite excited.
So I dragged my dining partner down to give it a try. Nestled in Jubilee, it was quite a surprising location but who can say no to wagyu beef?
Soo Gyu Don (Wagyu Don) $24.80
Their Soo Gyu Don set comes with a bowl of extremely good miso soup, and if you prefer to just have normal beef, you can opt for they Gyu Don at a slightly lower price.
I decided to try this legendary wagyu, and it was.. indescribable.
The beef was succulent and juicy, and that beautiful onsen egg! The way to eat this would be to poke the egg and stir it around.
Overall, it was a good experience, but I felt it could do with slightly more flavouring and a bit more rice underneath. The wagyu don tasted a wee bit bland and my too little portion of rice turned into a mini puddle of soaked rice.
In a Nutshell
Verdict: 3/5
Price Point: $$
Thumbs Up: Value for money wagyu don!To Improve: More finesse in the wagyu don execution
Will I return: Maybe, but if I really crave for some wagyu...then yes!

The ever popular sushi rolls Japanese restaurant The Sushi Bar has finally opened another outlet, this time in the ever freezing cold Ngee Ann City. There is something about this shopping center that gets increasingly colder the higher up you go, so if you're heading here for some sushi rolls, please bring a windbreaker and wear your warmest attire. There is nothing more chilling than having cold wind blowing at your head while eating cold sashimi. Brrrrrr.... I don't know if the shop has control over the air con or is it a central system, in any case, just bring a jacket.
AMAEBI KARAAGE 6.90
I was a teeny bit surprised when this dish arrived, and let's just say that's because the photo in the menu has exaggerated the amount of ebi served. It was a yummy dish, the sweet prawns were lightly coated in batter and deep fried to a golden brown, it tasted fresh. Even though it was deep fried, it still retained its juciness and paired with the tobiko mayo dip, it was an excellent appetizer for a sushi meal.
SALMON ABURI ROLL 15.90
The highly lauded and raved Aburi Salmon Roll is finally here!
This is really one kickass salmon roll. The fish was nicely torched and the combination of torched and raw salmon is definitely a mini explosion in your mouth.
SOFT SHELL CRAB ROLL 10.90
![]()
To be honest when I ordered this, I had no idea how the dish will look like.
Maybe it's a new temporary menu, but I realize the menu is quite lacking in pictures. In addition, the font size is tiny. I had to squint a little to be able to read it.
I certainly hope this is just a temporary menu, because as customers, I prefer to be able to put a picture to the dish I ordered. The lack of photos required some form of imagination as to how the dish might look like. Too much guesswork involved isn't a good thing.
Aside from that, this soft shell crab roll is rather tasty, the cucumber rolls perfectly complementing the oiler deep-fried soft shell crab.
SALMON AVOCADO ROLL 8.90
Surprisingly, this is one of my favourite.
Extremely refreshing and light on the palette, this is something that will leave you wanting more.
In a Nutshell
Verdict: 4/5
Price Point: $$$
Thumbs Up: Slightly pricey but you get what you pay for, it's definitely good sushi.
To Improve: Less aircon, more pictures.
Will I return: Yes
Why: Who can say no to a good sushi roll?

I haven't been on a salad hunt for quite some time and I was recommended to try The Lawn by my friend who worked nearby.
We decided to DIY our salad instead of picking their pre-designed bowl.
Butter Seared Pacific Dory with Parsley Rub Salad Bowl
First, you pick 5 vegetables for your salad.
Secondly, you decide if you want to add a Grill to you salad. At The Lawn, they call this approach Meat Your Greens, where greens take priority over meats.
They have a variety of grills available and the ones featured here are
Butter Seared Pacific Dory with Parsley Rub and Char-grilled Garlic Prawns.
Char-grilled Garlic Prawns Salad Bowl Lastly, you pick a dressing for your salad. They have dressings ranging from
Red Island and Honeyball to quirkier dressing flavours such as Manly Mango and Wasahonie.
I wish they would explain what goes into these dressing though, especially some of the more quirkier names, I assume Wasahonie has wasabi in it, But what else? The dressing can determine the flavour of the entire bowl of salad so while it's creative, it should also be self-explanatory so it helps the customers in deciding what to pick.
In conclusion, I quite like The Lawn. It was an extremely fulfilling bowl of greens that doesn't burn a huge hole in your pocket. The greens are fresh and the grills are yummy. It is enough to tempt me back when I am craving for some healthy food.
In a Nutshell
Verdict: 4/5
Price Point: $$
Thumbs Up: Very fresh ingredients and interesting salad dressingTo Improve: Quirky dressing names could be further explained maybe? It got me a little confused as to what I might be potentially ordering
Will I return: Possibly!

May was an extemely busy month but it passed by in a flurry of paperwork and yucky meetings, and amidst the blueness, I have my ducks to keep my mood up.
Ducky Care Package!
I really like the veg crisps, it had a hint of natural sweetness that was really refreshing.
May spells Mother's Day and was illustrated by this beautiful Chocolate Banana Cake.
Ippudo introduced this new Kuro Ramen which was a blend of all 3 of their signature White, Black and Red ramen soup base. It was yummy with thick chewy noodles, but I still prefer my lighter version of original white with thin noodles.
